Collagen Red Light Therapy for Acne

Collagen Red Light Therapy for Acne Treatment

Sunlight is well known to improve the effects of acne as it contains red light…

This was thought to be down to the antibacterial effects given in the ultraviolet light spectrum, this however cannot be used as a regularlight therapy treatment for acne due to the likelihood of skin damage such as cancer in the long term.

This is where collagen red light therapy come in. It has been found that some of the visible, violet light present in sunlight (light range between 405–420 nm) activates a porphyrin inPropionibacterium acnes which damages, breaks down and ultimately then kills the bacteria by releasing singlet oxygen. A total of 320 J/cm2 of light within this range renders the bacteria non-viable.

Deep penetrating red light therapy treatments were taken for three consecutive days. This red light therapy review has been shown to reduce the bacteria which causes acne by 99.9%. Since there are few porphyrins naturally found in the skin, the red light therapytreatment is believed safe except in patients with porphyria. although eye protection is used due to light-sensitive chemicals in the retina it is always better to check with a specialist first before using any red light therapy for acne. The red light therapy is usually created by fluorescent lamps or bright LEDs.

Overall improvements from red light therapy for acne treatments are of on average 76% to 80% of patients occurs over 3 months. Most studies show that red light therapy for the acne treatment performs better than benzoyl peroxide and the light therapy treatment is far better tolerated by the body.

However, approximately 10% of red light therapy acne treatment users see no massive improvement.
